Worcester Telegram & Gazette recently applauded the new Cultural Investment Portfolio, a general operating support program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the Cultural Data Project as a key component of the new program. "On a practical level, the CDP and the closely related portfolio approach here in Massachusetts will enable arts organizations to get a better handle on their finances and investments."

October 16, 2009Despite recent challenges for arts organizations, Rep. Sarah Peake (D-Provincetown) and Margaret Van Sciver (president of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod) vowed to fight for arts funding in a
Cape Cod Times op-ed. Stimulus funds have aided some organizations in keeping positions threatened by the recession and helped to convey the vital role the arts play in economic recovery.
By implementing the CDP, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, The Boston Foundation, Barr Foundation and The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation and other partners have invested in a resource that will help arts groups improve their ability to weather the next storm. "States that have already implemented this system, including Pennsylvania, Maryland and California, have found that it allows groups to take a more forward-looking approach to financial management, helping them identify potential problems before they become emergencies."
